It could be said that I became a marriage celebrant by accident more so by an enquiry.
A work colleague “out of the blue” asked me one day if I was a Marriage Celebrant, not for herself but another couple, I can only assume it was because I was an Auctioneer & Real Estate Agent or Community Radio presenter.
It was not long after that I saw an advertisement for a Celebrants Training Day across the Murray River in Albury so decided that I would enquire about it and things went from there.
Not long after completing the course a friend of some years was getting married and asked if I would be their Celebrant to which I happily acceded. All went well on Saturday 29 January 2011 under the shady trees of the Albury Racecourse .
On Monday morning a work colleague who was present, announced to all within ear shot that he had seen a great Celebrant in action to which one of the receptionists announced that she had a friend who was getting married and looking for a Celebrant. The rest is history !
Hence many years of marrying friends of my Children, (one involved a trip to Adelaide for a friend of my daughters) as the Celebrant had “pulled the Pin” at a months plus notice, friends’ children etc etc – Two families of friends I have been involved with, I have Celebrated at 3 weddings in each.
Living in Wodonga, Victoria I have been to many venues such as wineries, homes, lakes, Parks & Gardens, designated wedding venues, even one in a church that is currently being used – a beautiful old timber building in a small New South Wales community.
One that I often refer to, is one at Mt Hotham, in March, where on the day I had climbed to the top of a hill and it was there the groom pulled a piece of paper which was the “Love Story” not to be read but done “Rap” style. For someone who didn’t know “Rap” other than you slur your words and half sing.
That was 1st & last for Rap. I still laugh about it !
It is great to sit with a couple and plan what they would like in their service and from “not being sure” it is fantastic to be able to involve family & friends in the ceremony.
